4-Day Serengeti & Ngorongoro Fly-In Safari from Zanzibar
3 Nights in Serengeti | Serengeti Game Drives | Ngorongoro Crater | Fly from Zanzibar
Experience two of northern Tanzania's most celebrated safari destinations on this 4-day fly-in safari from Zanzibar to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater.
Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights
Starting & Ending Point: Zanzibar
Safari Style: Fly-in & drive-out safari
Designed for travelers who are already staying in Zanzibar and want more than a short safari, this itinerary gives you three nights in the Serengeti, multiple game drives across the Serengeti plains, and a final-day safari inside the Ngorongoro Crater before continuing to Arusha for your flight back to Zanzibar.
Flying from Zanzibar allows you to reach the Serengeti without spending the first day driving from Arusha. Once you land at the appropriate Serengeti airstrip, your private safari guide meets you and your game-viewing experience begins.
Safari Highlights
Three Nights in the Serengeti
Spend three nights in Tanzania's most famous national park, giving you considerably more time for wildlife viewing than a quick one- or two-night safari.
Fly from Zanzibar to Serengeti
Start your safari by air, avoiding the long first-day road journey from Arusha to the Serengeti.
Descend into Ngorongoro Crater
Finish your safari with a game drive on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater before travelling to Arusha for your return flight to Zanzibar.
Detailed 4-Day Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Zanzibar → Fly to Serengeti → Afternoon Game Drive
Your safari begins in Zanzibar.
Depending on the arrangements included in your package, you will be collected from your Zanzibar hotel and transferred to the airport in time for your scheduled safari flight.
After check-in, board a domestic flight from Zanzibar toward the Serengeti. Safari flights normally operate using smaller aircraft and may make scheduled stops along the route depending on the day's flight operation.
As you approach the Serengeti, the scenery changes dramatically from Zanzibar's tropical coastline to the vast landscapes of northern Tanzania.
Arrival in the Serengeti
On arrival at the designated Serengeti airstrip, your professional safari guide will be waiting to welcome you.
After a short introduction and safari briefing, you begin your first game drive.
There is no need to wait until the following morning to experience the Serengeti. Depending on your arrival time, the journey from the airstrip toward your lodge or tented camp becomes part of your first safari experience.

Day 2: Full-Day Safari in Serengeti National Park
Wake up in the Serengeti for your first complete day of safari.
After breakfast, depart with your guide for an extended game drive exploring the park.
Today is dedicated entirely to the Serengeti, giving you the flexibility to follow wildlife activity rather than rushing toward another destination.
Exploring the Serengeti
The Serengeti is a vast ecosystem, and the experience can change considerably depending on the region and season.
Your guide will plan the day's game drive according to your lodge location, current conditions and wildlife activity.
You may spend time exploring open grasslands where herbivores gather, rocky kopjes that can provide resting and observation points for predators, or riverine areas that support different wildlife and birdlife.
Your guide will also explain animal behavior, the Serengeti ecosystem and the relationship between predators and prey.
What Might You See?
The Serengeti supports an extraordinary variety of wildlife.
Large herds of wildebeest and zebra are among its best-known inhabitants, while predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas occupy different habitats throughout the ecosystem.
Elephants, buffalo, giraffes, hippos, antelopes and numerous smaller species can also be encountered.
For bird enthusiasts, the Serengeti also provides excellent birdwatching opportunities.

Day 3: Full-Day Serengeti Safari
After breakfast, begin another full day exploring Serengeti National Park.
Having a third day in the Serengeti is an important advantage of this itinerary.
Safari is unpredictable by nature. One morning might bring a memorable lion sighting, while another game drive could reveal elephants moving across the plains, a cheetah scanning the grasslands or large groups of grazing animals.
Spending more time in the park gives you more opportunities to experience these natural encounters without trying to fit the Serengeti into a rushed schedule.
Following the Season
Your exact game-drive area can be adapted according to the time of year.
The Serengeti is famous for the Great Migration, but the herds move through the wider ecosystem rather than remaining in one location throughout the year.
For this reason, accommodation and game-drive areas should be selected according to your travel dates.
If witnessing the migration is one of your priorities, let us know your travel month when requesting your safari.
We can then recommend an appropriate Serengeti area based on typical seasonal patterns and practical routing.
More Than the Great Migration
It is also important to understand that the Serengeti is not only about the migration.
Resident wildlife remains an important part of the safari experience throughout the year, which is why a Serengeti safari can be rewarding even when the largest migratory herds are concentrated elsewhere in the ecosystem.
Enjoy another day of wildlife viewing before heading to your accommodation for your final night in the Serengeti.
For the practical operation of Day 4, your final night's accommodation will be selected with the onward journey toward Ngorongoro in mind.
Accommodation: Same as day 1& 2
Day 4: Serengeti → Ngorongoro Crater → Arusha Airport → Zanzibar
Your final safari day combines another of northern Tanzania's most remarkable wildlife destinations with your journey back to Zanzibar.
An early start is essential today.
After breakfast, depart the Serengeti and travel toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
The drive itself takes you through changing landscapes as you leave the Serengeti ecosystem and approach the Ngorongoro highlands.
Game Drive on the Crater Floor
Explore the crater floor with your safari guide.
Unlike the endless open landscapes of the Serengeti, Ngorongoro provides a very different safari setting, with grasslands, wetlands and forested areas contained within the walls of the caldera.
Possible wildlife encounters include: Lions, African elephants, Buffalo, Black rhinos, Hippos, Zebras, Wildebeest, Hyenas, Gazelles, Warthogs, Numerous bird species
The crater is often associated with the Big Five, but, as everywhere on safari; specific sightings can never be guaranteed.
A picnic lunch can be incorporated into the day's arrangements according to the final itinerary.
Ngorongoro → Arusha Airport
After your crater game drive, ascend from the crater and begin your drive toward Arusha.
The journey takes you through the Ngorongoro highlands and onward through northern Tanzania toward Arusha.
Your guide will take you directly to Arusha Airport for your scheduled flight back to Zanzibar.

Important Flight Information
Safari flights operate according to airline schedules and may include intermediate stops.
Flight times can also change.
For this reason, the exact Zanzibar → Serengeti flight and Arusha → Zanzibar flight should be confirmed for your actual travel date before the final safari itinerary is issued.
This is particularly important on Day 4 because the Ngorongoro Crater game drive and road transfer to Arusha must be coordinated with your confirmed departure time.
Safari Luggage
Flights to safari airstrips normally use smaller aircraft, so baggage rules may be more restrictive than those on international flights.
The permitted baggage weight, bag dimensions and baggage type depend on the airline operating your flight.
We will provide the correct baggage requirements with your confirmed flight arrangements.
If you are returning to the same hotel in Zanzibar, you may also ask the property whether they can store your larger luggage while you take a smaller safari bag to the mainland.
